Llama Llama Red Pajama

I highly suggest you slide into your best pair of PJs when reading this review.

THREE PROS
*I love the cadence, there's a flow to it that other books can't touch
*The facial expressions of the llamas are priceless, and probably harder to draw than we'll ever realize
*Mama Llama tells her baby to be patient, an important lesson for all kids

THREE CONS
*It's another bedtime story, so it loses a few points there for lack of theme originality
*Along these same lines, the child's stuffed animal acting as a silent character in the book is nothing new
*Baby Llama throws a tantrum toward the end, yet another too commonly seen kiddie book component

ONE DAD'S OPINION
It's impossible to know if real-life llama families experience the "llama drama" described in the pages of L.L.R.P., but Anna Dewdney makes me want to head to a petting zoo at night just to see.  I was so impressed with this work the first time I read it and that feeling has never really worn off, even though the author played it safe with some of the storyline elements.  I actually think it might be better than "Pookie", but I'll leave the final decision to you.

For anyone out there who loves their little one and loves rhyming, this book is the best!! I especially love the line "little llama, what a tizzy, sometimes mama llama's busy!". Don't worry though, mama llama is a great mom-- she tells her llama not to fear mama llama's always near : )

My sons teacher made this book into a song. It was great. Her name was mrs. Nina and she made a cd. You can look her up and get the song. She is based in NYC.

This is one of my daughter's favorite books along with Llama Llama Misses Mama. I also have a book which, if you're willing, I'd love an honest review. It's called The Silly Little Giraffe and is about a little giraffe who wants nothing more than to be able to fly even though most of the other animals say it will never happen. You can email me or visit my website for more information about the book. Or, if you prefer, I can send you an info sheet. Thanks.
